Action Continues in Derm

2017 was a strong acquisition year for US dermatology firms.  It's estimated that the acquisition total was up at least 45% over the previous year.  The action continues in 2018... In general, it appears that the larger firms continue to bring smaller practices into their fold.  Here's a rundown of some of the first quarter derm acquisitions:

A+ for Derm Platform's First Add-on

Sona MedSpa is the first acquisition by Pharos Capital's new platform, Dermatology and MedSpa, Inc.  The platform company (formerly The Dermatology Center) offers a suite of medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services in the Maryland/D.C. area.  The "Sona" acquisition quickly expands the provider's footprint by 5 states and complements the business with cosmetic derm offerings.  Appears that the first add-on is first rate in terms of potential growth. >>Read more

Home Healthcare Acquisitions

Almost Family, Inc., a regional leader in providing home health services announced its acquisition of SunCrest HealthCare.  The transaction increases their branch locations to over 240 across 14 states with a revenue run rate close to $500M.  >>Read more

Addus HealthCare, nationally known for services including nursing, personal care aides, and rehabilitation acquired Coordinated Home Health Care, LLC from Transition Capital Partners.  Addus serves 25,000 weekly consumers from 129 offices in 19 states and now adds 15 offices in New Mexico.  >>Read more

Les McKeown has been around the proverbial block…with 40 companies and a few books under his belt, he knows about success.  McKeown's latest book, "The Synergist:  How to Lead Your Team to Predictable Success" suggests he also knows about effective leadership skills.

Inc. offered up McKeown's quick (and really logical) list of Do's and Don'ts for being a better leader.  Several are noted below:  

  • Ask "What can I do for you?"
  • Distrust what you trust.
  • Ask more than you tell.
  • Be present.
  • Be nice.
