Anne Arundel Dermatology Adds Another...

After its recent second quarter acquisition, Anne Arundel Dermatology Management (ADM) continues on the acquisition and integration trail.  In early July, ADM CEO Scott Mahosky announced a partnership with Virginia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center PLLC (VAD).  Founded by Dr. Brian Johnson, the acquisition of VAD adds 4 locations in the Norfolk/Newport News area to ADM, a portfolio company of New MainStream Capital.  With the addition of Dr. Johnson' s practice and skilled staff,  Anne Arundel Dermatology Management now provides support services to 44 clinic locations across three states (MD, VA, TN) with over 120 providers.”  >>Read more

Everything's Big in Texas Derm Too!

Spindletop Capital Management recently established a derm platform under the name Sanova Dermatology and did it in a BIG WAY.  The private equity firm brought together leading Austin-area and southern dermatologists to provide high-quality patient care. Spindletop's 8 acquisitions now fly under the Sanova flag.  They include:

  • Sanova Dermatology
  • Austin Dermatology Associates
  • Steiner Ranch Dermatology
  • Pflugerville Dermatology and Aesthetic Center
  • The Austin Institute for Clinical Research
  • Practice of Bonnie Furner, MD
  • DermaSurgery Center
  • Old Metairie Dermatology

The practice boasts 20 providers in the key Texas areas of AustinSan Antonio as well as Louisiana cities: New OrleansBaton Rouge, and Lafayette.

The business will be led by CEO Scott Burns and Dr. Ted Lain who shared the benefits of the new dermatology practice management platform:

It didn't take Dermatology Associates long...  Soon after ABRY's May acquisition, the derm practice management organization scooped up 5 Texas practices.  With ABRY's backing, Dermatology Associates appears ready & able to continue its expansion beyond its current footprint (Texas, Kansas, Missouri).

Schweiger Derm Group Expands

On the heels of an April investment by LLR Partners, the Schweiger Dermatology Group continues its expansion.  In May, New York City Mohs surgeon and skin cancer expert David Kreigel, M.D. and his staff from the Manhattan Center for Dermatology joined the derm platform business.  

Dr. Eric Schweiger owns and operates over 20 locations in the greater New York area. The newest Schweiger location is on Long Island with the acquisition of Dr. Frank Demento's practice mid-June. A Win for Bernie..A Clinic for ADCS

The dominant Derm platform in the U.S., ADCS Clinics, went back to Michigan for its latest acquisition - Western Michigan, this time.  
Dr. Gerald Karabin, owner of Kalamazoo Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center, joins the ADCS professional team.  Dr. Karabin has distinguished himself in surgical and cosmetic dermatology as well as a clinical researcher.
This latest acquisition continues the build out by ADCS in the Great Lakes State.  Over the past few years, the company has acquired several Michigan-based practices including Grekin Skin Institute, Dermatology Associates of Northern Michigan, Bay Area Dermatology.  Florida-based ADCS, founded in 1989 by Dr. Matt Leavitt, offers over 142 service locations in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Southwest, Midwest and West.   >>Read more

A+ for Derm Platform's First Add-on

Sona MedSpa is the first acquisition by Pharos Capital's new platform, Dermatology and MedSpa, Inc.  The platform company (formerly The Dermatology Center) offers a suite of medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services in the Maryland/D.C. area.  The "Sona" acquisition quickly expands the provider's footprint by 5 states and complements the business with cosmetic derm offerings.  Appears that the first add-on is first rate in terms of potential growth. >>Read more

Applause for ADCS & Audax

No summer break for Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery (ADCS), a portfolio company of Audax Private Equity.  ADCS was busy completing four separate practice acquisitions over July and August (Philadelphia, Traverse City and Lansing MI  and Venice, FL).  They mark September with their latest acquisition - Dermatology of Northern Colorado (DNC) in Ft. Collins, CO, founded in 1987.  DNC joins Fort Collins Skin Clinic (a September, 2014 acquisition) under the ADCS umbrella serving patients in the Fort Collins area.  

With the ADCS add-on, Audax reached a milestone…it's 500th acquisition!

ADCS Focus on Michigan

Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery (ADCS) continues its advance into Michigan.  The national derm group acquired the Grekin Skin Institute, a multi-site Southeast Michigan practice, in 2014.  With a focus on his home state, Dr. Steven Grekin, now a regional Midwest director and business development officer has been busy.  He's added several practices under the ADCS banner in 2015.  These include the four clinic Dermatology Associates of Northern Michigan,  Dr. Michael Redmond's Livonia practice and in late July another northern Michigan practice, Bay Area Dermatology (Traverse City).  Dr. Grekin's 2015 goal for Michigan is to expand to 15 offices with an eye on 30 locations by 2017.

ADCS added another solo practice in late July.  Dr. Howard Goldman is now part of the ADCS team.  His practice complements other Advanced Philadelphia-area locations.  

With the recent Michigan and Pennsylvania acquisitions, ADCS owns more that 115 clinics - clearly the leading derm organization in terms of locations.   >>Read this and more

The team at ADCS continues its push into western states with the latest acquisition in northern Colorado (Ft. More Expansion in Dermatology Specialty

Dermatology Associates (Tyler, TX) is moving North

Dermatology & Skin Cancer CenterThe portfolio company of  Candescent Partners is combining with Kansas City-based Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center (DSCC).  Together, the organization of 25 physicians will provide services to patients from 14 locations in Texas, Kansas and Missouri.  Geoff Wayne will serve as CEO for the combined practices.  >>Read more

The Dermatology Associates acquisition follows another healthcare-related deal by the PE firm completed earlier this year.  Candescent Healing, a Candescent Partners portfolio company, merged with a subsidiary of RestorixHealth in January.  The two companies, operating under the name RestorixHealth, will continue its focus in the development and management of wound care treatment centers.  (The transaction represented an exit for Candescent Healing, its investors and its management team.)

Dermatology Associates of Tyler Get a Partner

Candescent Partners, LLC with co-investors Eagle Private Capital and Harbert Mezzanine Partners announced the acquisition of Dermatology Associates of Tyler.  The East Texas-based provider of medical and cosmetic dermatological services currently has four offices, including a pathology lab and surgery center.  Dr. Lawrence Anderson co-founded the business in 1996 and post-transaction will lead a staff of 10 doctors as the practice continues to grow. >>Read more 

DermOne Acquisition Arm Stretches to NC

 Leading dermatology services provider, DermOne Dermatology Centers completed two acquisitions in late 2012.  Formerly known as Accredited Dermatology founded by Dr. Rami Geffner, DermOne features a network of 35 locations.  Another New Jersey location was added with the practice of Dr. Isaac Mordecai, a specialist in medical and cosmetic dermatology.  Additionally, DermOne acquired Atlantic Dermatology of Wilmington, NC under the leadership of Dr. Jonathan Crane.  DermOne CEO, Ron Geraty noted that,
